History

General course information

The A Level Course is divided into 5 units. There are 4 units in examinations with 2 in year 12 and 2 in year 13, with an additional unit for coursework in year 13.

Units 1 and 3 are taught by Mr Mainwaring and focus on extended essay technique. This course will look at two periods of over 200 years with the first focusing on Britain 1780-1885 and the second on the USA 1890-1990.

Units 2 and 4 focus on the skill of source analysis and will be taught by Mr Rhys. These units focus on German history from 1918-1945. The first year will focus on the Weimar years between 1918-1933, with the second year focusing on the Nazi era of 1933-45.

Coursework (unit 5) will be assessed by Mr Rhys and focuses on the Civil Rights Movement led by Dr King

Ideal Entry requirements

Although all application will be considered individually it would be beneficial to have a B grade or higher in GCSE History or the equivalent in English/Welsh language if you haven’t studied History for GCSE.
