CAREERS & WORK RELATED EXPERIENCES

Careers Wales Quality Award

Ysgol Bro Dinefwr are pleased to take part in the Careers Wales Quality Award pilot, along with 37 other schools in Wales.

The Careers Wales Quality Award aims to support all schools and settings with learners aged 3 to 16.

It will support the development of purposeful and relevant CWRE (Careers and Work-Related Experiences) across the curriculum.

The Careers Wales Quality Award (CWQA) is aligned with the Curriculum for Wales. It will replace the Careers Wales Mark.

The CWQA has 3 stages, each with a different focus.

  • Stage 1 – Leadership

This stage is about formulating and maintaining the commitment to lead the development of CWRE.

  • Stage 2 – Development

This stage is about realising CWRE in the curriculum through professional learning, stakeholder engagement and effective teaching and learning.

  • Stage 3 – Impact

This stage is about demonstrating impact in CWRE.

The pilot will run from September 2023 to 2026 and Ysgol Bro Dinefwr is asked to complete all three stages during this time to achieve the award.

YSGOL BRO DINEFWR CAREERS PROVISION

At Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, we aim to provide comprehensive and progressive career and higher education guidance to all our learners. In line with our school vision, we encourage our learners to have high aspirations and ‘esgyn ar adain dysg’ (ascend on the wings of learning).

Careers and work-related experiences (CWRE) is one of five cross-cutting themes within the Curriculum for Wales for learners aged 3 to 16.

Effective CWRE consists of careers education embedded across the areas of learning which is supported by a range of work-related learning experiences.

The CWRE opportunities we offer enable our learners to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in preparation for the challenges and opportunities of further learning and the world of work.

From the age of 3, CWRE should inspire learners to:

  • Develop an understanding of the purpose of work in life for themselves and society

  • Become increasingly aware of the range of opportunities available to them

  • Develop the attitudes and behaviours required to overcome barriers to employability, career management and lifelong learning

  • Explore opportunities through a variety of meaningful experiences in learning, work and entrepreneurship

  • Develop resilience and the ability to be adaptable in response to challenges, choices and responsibilities of work and life

We offer our learners a variety of careers and work-related experiences through the curriculum, our PSE programme, visits, competitions, live projects and work experience.

We have strong community links with a variety of stakeholders including our Governors, local businesses and companies such as:

  • Castell Howell

  • TRJ

  • Menter Dinefwr

  • Cynllun Profi, Menter Gorllewin Sir Gâr

  • Carmarthenshire Food Network

  • Cook 24, Coleg Sir Gar

We are building a strong Bro Dinefwr Alumni to inspire our current learners to have high aspirations.
