Canolfan Cothi

At Bro Dinefwr we are committed to inclusion and whilst most of our pupils’ needs can be met in our mainstream and Resource Base provision, a small number of young people with autism are based in Canolfan Cothi.

Canolfan Cothi is a purpose-built specialist facility for pupils who have a diagnosis of ASD. The centre has a capacity for 35 pupils and provides specialist educational placements for children and young people between 11 and 19 years, all of whom are on the Autistic spectrum; some have severe or profound learning difficulties.

Canolfan Cothi is highly valued by pupils, parents and the whole school community, as a centre of excellence. Our staff work very closely with the families of ASD learners and the agencies involved in their care. Other schools in the area use the centre for specialist support and advice.

The centre is managed by Mrs Deborah Lloyd.

Criteria for placement:

  • Diagnosis of ASD

  • Statement of SEN or IDP indicating ASD as primary additional learning need

  • Nature and complexity of Additional Learning Needs amount to a significant barrier to accessing learning in an ASD friendly class.
