course information

The GCSE course is split into two units: Unit 1 – Religion and Philosophical Themes – studied in year 10 and Unit 2 – Religion and Ethical Themes – studied in year 11. Both units have two parts.

Unit 1

Part A: Christianity and Buddhism: Beliefs, Teachings and Practices of both world religions.

 

Part B: Philosophical Themes (from the perspective of Christianity and Buddhism). We study two main themes, i. Life and Death, exploring themes such as the origin and value of human life and beliefs about death and the afterlife, and ii. Good and Evil, exploring issues such as crime and punishment, forgiveness, good, evil and suffering.

Unit 2

Part A: Christianity and Buddhism: Beliefs, Teachings and Practices of both world religions.

 

Part B: Ethical Themes (from the perspective of Christianity and Buddhism). We study two main themes, i. Relationships, exploring issues such as sexual relationships and gender prejudice and discrimination, and ii. Issues of Human Rights exploring issues such as human rights and social justice.
