Religion, Values and Ethics

The Religious Studies GCSE course is split into four units. The units will be assessed with two written examinations and two non-examination assessments. Pupils will complete one written examination and one non-examination assessment at the end of year 10. This counts for 50% of their final grade. They will also complete one written examination at the end of year 11 and one non-examination assessment.

Unit 1 - Religious and non-religious beliefs, teachings and practices Christianity and Buddhism Written examination: 30% of qualification
Unit 2 - Religion and Relationships Christianity and Buddhism Non-examination assessment: 20% of qualification
Unit 3 - Roles, rights and responsibilities Christianity and Buddhism Written examination: 30% of qualification
Unit 4 - Religion and human rights Christianity and Buddhism Non-examination assessment: 20% of qualification

Studying Religious Studies will help you to:

·         develop knowledge and understanding of religious and non-religious beliefs, values, teachings, practices and philosophical beliefs,

·         engage with contrasting lived religious and non-religious experiences

·         develop curiosity about the purpose of life

·         appreciate the complex, pluralistic and diverse nature of society by understanding the need for tolerance, resilience and empathy

·         reflect on their own values, beliefs and perspectives and those of others

·         prepare for a career in many different areas varying from police force to social care / medicine; from law to journalism.
