The council is supplying food packs containing breakfasts and lunches for five days to all children registered for free school meals.
The food packs can be collected from secondary schools across the county between 9am and 12noon Monday to Friday as well as Ysgol Y Castell in Kidwelly, Ysgol Rhys Pritchard in Llandovery and Ysgol Carreg Hirfaen.
From Monday, April 6, the service will not be available at QE High School in Carmarthen; we are asking families to collect from Ysgol Bro Myrddin instead. This is because the kitchens at QE High could be used to support the temporary hospital at Carmarthen Leisure Centre.
Please note the schools will not be open for collections on Good Friday (April 10) or Easter Monday (April 13).
Families are also being encouraged to apply for free school meals if they have had a change in circumstances, such as household income, due to the coronavirus pandemic. More information including how to apply can be found on our website.
Executive Board Member for Education and Children’s Services Cllr Glynog Davies said: “It is important that we continue to provide free school meals during the Easter holidays for families.
“This is s a difficult time for everyone, and we need to do all we can to support families whilst our schools are closed. Families eligible for free school meals will also receive a food pack to feed the whole family.
“We also want to get the message out there that some families who may not have been eligible for free school meals previously, may now be eligible due to a change in circumstances.”
The situation is being continually monitored in line with Government advice and the council is looking at various options on how it will continue to provide free school meals for families following the Easter holidays. More information will follow in due course and any updates will be published on the newsroom.
If you are having difficulty collecting your free school meals food pack please email email@example.com or call 01267 234567.
Free sanitary products are also available at all of the collection points as part of the #PeriodPovertySirGâr project.
