About Us

It is my pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the Ysgol Bro Dinefwr website which offers a wealth of information about our vision for the future, the flourishing developments taking shape at our school, and the many successes and achievements of our students. I hope that it will provide you with an insight into the qualities which make Bro Dinefwr so special

The school occupies a magnificent site in the heart of the Tywi Valley, providing a contemporary and inspirational environment with first class facilities. It is a vibrant bilingual learning community, providing high quality education for our 1200 students.

Bro Dinefwr is a friendly, inclusive and highly ambitious secondary school. Our size, neither too large nor too small, allows us to provide a wide range of courses and extra-curricular activities.

We believe that children and young people learn best when they are happy and emotional well-being has a high priority. We place a strong emphasis on individual care, nurture and support and believe that this enables us to prepare our students to be creative, confident and caring citizens, who are excited about learning and eager to make their mark on the world.

A key part of my role is ensuring that students receive the support and opportunities they need to achieve incredible things. They deserve the very best education possible and our team of dedicated staff provide an inspiring, structured and supportive learning environment, in which every student is challenged to realise their full potential and encouraged to be ambitious for their futures.

I am extremely proud to lead Ysgol Bro Dinefwr and I hope you enjoy finding out more about the school on our website. I know you will see that our school community provides our students with the means to be successful and fulfilled and to develop into active and responsible citizens who make a positive and valuable contribution to the wider community.

Canolfan Cothi

At Bro Dinefwr we are committed to inclusion and whilst most of our pupils’ needs can be met in our mainstream and Resource Base provision, a small number of young people with autism are based in Canolfan Cothi.

Canolfan Cothi is a purpose-built specialist facility for pupils who have a diagnosis of ASD. The centre has capacity for 35 pupils and provides specialist educational placements for children and young people between 11 and 19 years, all of whom are on the Autistic spectrum; some have severe or profound learning difficulties.

Canolfan Cothi is highly valued by pupils, parents and the whole school community, as a centre of excellence. Our staff work very closely with the families of ASD learners and the agencies involved in their care. Other schools in the area use the centre for specialist support and advice.

The centre is managed by Mrs Deborah Lloyd.

Criteria for placement:

  • Diagnosis of ASD
  • Statement of SEN or IDP indicating ASD as primary additional learning need

Nature and complexity of Additional Learning Needs amount to a significant barrier to accessing learning in an ASD friendly class
