National Hockey Finals / Ngemau Terfynol Hoci Cenedlaethol 2019

As Dyfed champions the under 16 Bro Dinefwr team travelled to Swansea to play in the National Hockey Finals. This tournament involves the best 8 teams from all over Wales. As was to be expected the standard was exceptionally high with several current Welsh international players representing their schools, including our own Siwan Jones-Evans and Phoebe Davis. The team made an excellent start beating Ysgol Tryfan (from Bangor) 2-0 with goals from Bethany James and Phoebe Davies. The second match was against Christ College which we lost 2-0 but the score did not reflect the possession and the high quality match play. So onto the 3rd , must win match against Ysgol Cwm Rhymney. Despite conceding a goal in the 2nd minute the team showed real character to come back and achieve a 2-1 victory scored by Meg Locke and Rhiannon James . So onto the SEMI-FINALS against yet another private school this time Howells school from Cardiff. An amazingly resilient performance from the girls but despite a valiant effort they lost 3-1 to the eventual tournament winners. YBD were the only team to score a goal (Siwan Jones-Evans) against them on the day. Many thanks to the parents who came to support on the day, to Mrs Deltyth Rees for umpiring and Eleri Murphy (on her day off) for her inspirational tactical changes. A day to remember!!

The Team / Y Tîm:

Siwan Jones_Evans- Cpt, Kellie-Gwen Morgan Vice- Cpt, Gwennan Price, Efa Ephraim Harris, Nia Williams, Alana Lewis, Isobel Lavery, Rhiannon James, Megan Locke, Tirion Evans, Sara Morgan, Katie Davenport, Marged Williams, Bethany James, Phoebe Davies, Meg Locke, Rhiannon James

Fel pencampwyr Dyfed teithiodd tîm dan 16 Bro Dinefwr i Abertawe i chwarae yng Ngemau Terfynol Hoci Cenedlaethol. Yn y twrnamaint hwn mae’r 8 tîm gorau o Gymru gyfan. Fel y gellid disgwyl roedd y safon yn eithriadol uchel gyda sawl chwaraewr rhyngwladol cyfredol i Gymru yn cynrychioli eu hysgolion, gan gynnwys  ein Siwan Jones-Evans a Phoebe Davis ni. Cafwyd dechrau ardderchog gan y tîm wrth guro Ysgol Tryfan (o Fangor) 2-0 gyda golau gan Bethany James a Phoebe Davies. Collon ni’r ail gêm yn erbyn Coleg Crist o 2-0 ond nid oedd y sgôr yn adlewyrchu’r meddiant ac ansawdd uchel y chwarae. Felly ymlaen at y 3ydd gêm roedd rhaid ei hennill yn erbyn Ysgol Cwm Rhymni. Er gwaethaf ildio gôl yn yr 2il funud dangosodd y tîm eu dyfnder i daro nôl ac ennill buddugoliaeth o 2-1 gyda Meg Locke a Rhiannon James  yn sgorio. Felly ymlaen at y ROWND GYNDERFYNOL yn erbyn ysgol breifat arall, sef ysgol Howells o Gaerdydd. Cafwyd perfformiad hynod o gryf gan y merched ond er gwaethaf ymdrech wrol collon nhw o 3-1 i’r tîm oedd yn y diwedd yn enillwyr y twrnamaint. YBD oedd yr unig dîm i sgorio gôl (Siwan Jones-Evans) yn eu herbyn ar y diwrnod hwnnw. Diolch yn fawr i’r rhieni a ddaweth i gefnogi ar y dydd, i  Mrs Delyth Rees am ddyfarnu ac Eleri Murphy (ar ei diwrnod i ffwrdd) am ei newidiadau tactegol ysbrydoledig. Diwrnod i’w gofio!!
